Veek the Vote
YouthNoise is a nonprofit organization for young people (ages 16-24) to express their views on a variety of topics ranging from education to AIDS awareness. YouthNoise has recently launched a mobile messaging campaign that seeks to capitalize on user generated media.
The effort is called 'Veek the Vote' and users are asked to use their cellphones to film themselves and others at their polling places. The video can then be sent to Veeker, a new mobile video messaging service, where it can be viewed on the users personal page.
'Veek the Vote' is part of a larger campaign centered around the upcoming elections. YouthNoise is also sponsing ads on popular teen sites feature 'Dont Vote' messages with humorous tag lines revealing the importance of voting.

Veek the Vote 2006 was a huge success thanks mainly to the blogosphere which spread the word like wildfire that video enabled mobile phones could be used to increase civic engagement.
Over 750 veeks were captured in just a few short days. These video peeks offered a breadth and depth to elections by average Americans. Also, notice was served that voter fraud will NOT be tolerated.
Even Members of Congress recognized the importance of this new technology. "I appreciate the work that activists from across the country, like those on VeekTheVote.com, have done to identify existing problems, and to help protect the rights that we all enjoy," states recently re-elected U.S. Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) about Veek the Vote 2006.
